Short version: Event Countdown is a countdown, calendar and widget app for Android, it has been on Google Play since 2015, unlimited countdowns are free, Premium is optional, and this website is run by the people who publish it.
The app
Event Countdown counts down to the dates that matter and shows how long is left — in a list, on the home screen as a widget, and on a month calendar in the Premium version. Each event carries a colour, one of 450 icons, optional notes and an optional notification. It counts up from past dates as well as down to future ones, and a countdown can be shared with someone else so they see it ticking too, on Android or on an iPhone.
It has been published on Google Play since July 2015 and is actively maintained — the listing shows the most recent update in August 2026. It requires Android 8.0 or later. At the time of writing the listing shows more than a million installs and a 4.8 rating from 11,359 ratings on Google Play. Those numbers move, and the listing is always the authoritative version of them.
Who publishes it
The app and this website are published by ROOT38 LIMITED, a company registered in the United Kingdom and based in Burton-on-Trent, United Kingdom.
Google verifies the identity and contact details of Play developers and publishes what it verified in the About the developer block on every listing. For this app that block is on the Play listing, alongside the registered postal address and phone number. This site carries the company name, the town and a working support address rather than repeating the whole record — nothing is hidden, and the verified version is one click away.
How the app is funded
Worth being blunt about, because it is the honest answer to “what is the catch?”.
- Advertising. The free version shows ads — the Play listing carries a Contains ads badge. Premium removes them.
- Premium. Sold as a monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time lifetime purchase, priced by Google Play between $1.99 and $49.99 per item. The subscription renews automatically until cancelled; the one-time purchase does not. The full terms are set out on the home page, and the FAQ says exactly where to cancel.
What is not behind the paywall is worth saying too: unlimited countdowns, the Next Event widget, counting up as well as down, colours, all 450 icons, notes, notifications, search and sharing. The paywall is about the calendar view, the widget collection, repeats and sync — not about how many events you are allowed.
There is no paid tier of this website and no payment taken anywhere on it. The only transaction that exists happens on Google Play.
What this website is for
A store listing gives you a few hundred words and a row of screenshots. It has no room to explain what exactly is free and what is Premium, how a subscription renews and where it is cancelled, why a countdown app asks for the camera, or what the data safety declaration means for someone about to install. That is what these pages are for.
What the site deliberately does not do:
- It does not host the app or offer an APK. Google Play is the only install route.
- It does not take payments, collect registrations or run a login.
- It does not publish invented reviews, awards or testimonials, and it does not repeat ranking claims it cannot substantiate. The figures quoted here are the ones on the Google Play listing, and nothing else.
- It does not claim any affiliation with Google. Android, Google Play and the Google Play logo are trademarks of Google LLC.
- It does not bury the subscription terms. They are on the home page, in the guide and in the FAQ, in the same words each time.
Contact
Email is the support channel. Anything to do with a payment, a renewal or a refund is faster through Google Play, because that is where the transaction actually lives.
